Depression, fear, and anxiety are some of the most common and uncomfortable emotions that we can experience at some point in our lives. Many individuals can experience symptoms associated with painful and traumatic events. Anxiety, fear, and hopelessness are a few emotions that can linger after traumatic events. We can help you overcome these symptoms and guide you through the process of grief and healing.
We can help you with most other mental health conditions also.
Therapeutic art-making and counselling can be beneficial to couples and groups at all stages of relationships, as it develops communication skills. Our group sessions and personal relationship counselling can provide safe spaces to strengthen your emotional connections with others. When couples seek support with their personal relationships Art Therapy and counselling sessions can be held with both members of a couple together, as well as concurrently with each person separately.
Importantly, we can also help you develop your relationship with yourself and -through clinical supervision - we can support you to understand, and improve your relationship with, your professional self.
Through Art Therapy and counselling, drawing on the neurosequential model of therapeutics, inside an Expressive Theapies Continuum framework, we are able to help you understand how your brain works. You will be able to gain motivation, perspective, and joy, and you can learn how to relax, open up and approach life's challenges creatively. With training and experience in trauma counselling and CBT (Cognitive-Behavioural Therapy) techniques as well as ACT (Acceptance and Commitment Therapy) methods, among others we can draw on a variety of frameworks until we find one that works for you.
"Art therapy has been engaging, unique and honestly feels more like a collaborative problem solving session rather than a one to one therapy session. I did a 6 week program with Whole Heart and Minds and left each session with greater confidence in myself and my abilities. The process of creative problem solving was very helpful as I learnt truths about myself, my situation and how I can start to turn the tables in my favour. I was always excited to create art and am proud of all of the art I created. I love how there are infinite possibilities considering the multitude of art materials available. Getting lost in a state of flow and following my instinctual inspirations of creativity was definitely a highlight. At the end of the program I made a transitional object that I took home that reminds me of the progress I've made throughout art therapy and also has a therapeutic meaning personal to my situation so to help me through every day challenges. I am blessed to have had such a life changing opportunity and highly recommend Whole Hearts and Minds art therapy services to anybody who feels as though they aren't getting their needs met. Thank you. " (Testimonial sent in by C.E. - 20y.o. Male, November, 2018)
